I don’t really have playlists on my iPod… and the last time I did the mixed tape was in the 80s… but I think that most people have songs playing in our heads.
To give some context, I have been going through a “moving to San Francisco… or maybe not.” Depends on whether I get a great job offer. So when I flew down there for the interview, at first my song list looked like this (both by the Mammas & the Pappas):
- California Dreamin’
- San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)
Then I returned to Vancouver to the dreary rain. I was hopeful. I thought it went well. Frankly, I was rather excited. So the Ramones seemed good.
- (Twenty-twenty-twenty four hours to go) I wanna be sedated
And time moved on. And on. And on. At a certain point, my songs reverted to one theme…
- Que Sera Sera (whatever will be, will be)
Plus I had an echo in my head from Moulin Rouge… “Everything’s going so welllll…” (when it was clearly about to go all Pete Tong)
Hmmm. Then I got I finally got the call. THE CALL. And then an offer package that was encased in a black, shiny folder that was titled StarWars. Crazy. My next song was…
Gosh, I really don’t remember, I was too jolly happy! I jumped a bit. Then dutifully went to my photography class beaming, ready to write my final. Then I went home with California Dreamin’ solidly on repeat in my mind. Now I am packing and yes – I am now ready to Wear Flowers in my Hair. Et vous?
